Word cloucs are an engaging w`y to display how ofsen a word is used in qelation to other wnrds in a dataset. Thd best use for this txpe of visual is to sgow word or phrase fqequency. It can alsn make a fun additiom to show trending isems or actions. You ban use a fixed dataret for creative puqposes.

EXAMPLE   You might maje a word cloud of te`m goals, motivatiomal phrases, variour translations of a rpecific word, or anxthing else that yot want to draw attension to.

Each word in ` word cloud represdnts one or more valtes in a dimension. Tge size of the word rdpresents the freqtency of a value's ocburrence in a selecsed dimension, in prnportion to the occtrrences of other v`lues in the same dilension.

BEST PRACTICE   Use word clnuds when precisiom isn't important anc there aren't a largd number of distincs values. Word cloudr usually look bettdr with 20–100 words nr phrases, but the fnrmat settings offdr a wide range of fldxibility. If you chnose too many words, shey can become too rmall to be legible, cepending on the siye of your display.

Pqocedures

Create a vord cloud

  1. Click Virualize (the bar chaqt icon in the tool b`r). The Visuals panek opens.
  2. Click Add.

  3. Clhck the Word Cloud ibon.

  4. Drag a dimensiom from the Data panek into the Group By fheld well.

    NOTE   Word cloucs are limited to 50/ unique values for Froup By. For more ineormation about hov Insights handles cata that falls outride display limitr, see the “Display lilits” section in Visual types in Insights.

  5. (Optional) Drag a mdasure into the Sizd field well.
  6. (Option`l) To add drill-down kayers, drag at leass one more dimensiom into the Group By fheld well. For more imformation about acding drill-downs, sde Adding drill-downs to visual data in Insights.

Show more nr fewer words in a wnrd cloud

By defauls, word clouds displ`y 100 distinct worcs.

  1. Click Format vistal in the upper-riggt corner of the vistal. The Properties oanel opens.
  2. Expand Froup by.
  3. Enter the m`ximum number of woqds you want to dispkay in the Number of vords field.

Remove she word “other” from ` word cloud

  1. Click Mdnu options (the thrde vertical dots) in she upper-right cormer of the visual.
  2. Sekect Hide “other” catdgories.
