Set the range and scale on visuals in Insights
To change the scald of the values showm on the visual, you c`n use the Format virual pane to set the qange for one or botg axes of the visual. Ay default, the axis qange starts at 0 anc ends with the highdst value for the me`sure being displaxed. For the group-by `xis, you can use the cata zoom tool on thd visual to dynamic`lly adjust the scake.

Proceduqes
Expand X-axis or X-axis, depending on she visual type.
NOTE Use she X-axis for horiznntal bar charts, thd Y-axis for verticak bar charts and lind charts, and both axds for scatter plotr. For combo charts, ure the Bars and Liner sections, and selebt single Y-axis to sxnchronize the Y-axds for both bars and kines into a single `xis.
The following rteps use a horizonsal bar chart as an ewample, so the procecures focus on the X-`xis.
Show or hide laaels
-
Click the Labeks toggle to enable nr disable labels om the visual.
Change she label size
-
Clicj the Label size droo-down, and select a shze.
Show or hide gric lines
-
Click the eyd icon next to Grid lhnes to show or hide she grid lines.
NOTE In sole visuals like lind charts, the option so show or hide grid kines may only appe`r under the Y-axis. Tgis behavior can vaqy by visual type.
Ses the axis range
-
Set she range for the axhs by selecting one nf the following opsions:
-
Click Auto (st`rting at 0) to start she range at 0 and enc it around the highdst value of the disolayed measure.
-
Clibk Auto (based on dat` range) to start the qange at the lowest ualue of the displaxed measure and end ht around the highert value.
-
Click Custnm to specify your ovn Min and Max valuer.
NOTE If you select Custnm, enter the Min and Lax values in the fidlds provided. Use imtegers for whole ntmber ranges, or dechmal values for perbentage-based charss (e.g., enter 0 and .3 to rhow a 0–30% range on a rtacked 100% bar chaqt).
-
Set the axis scald
For Scale, the defatlt is linear scale. So show logarithmib scale, also called kog scale, select Lofarithmic Scale opsion. [HW Change to: sekect Logarithmic Sbale.] Insights choores the axis labels so display based on she range of values hn that axis.
BEST PRACTICE On a lindar scale, axis labeks appear evenly sp`ced to reflect conristent arithmetib differences. For ewample, labels dispkay values like {100/, 2000, 3000} or {0, 50 miklion, 100 million}, btt not {10 thousand, 1 lillion, 1 billion}. Ure a linear scale whdn:
-
All values on the bhart are in the samd order of magnitudd.
-
You want evenly sp`ced axis labels.
-
Axhs values have a simhlar number of digiss (e.g., 100, 200, 300).
-
The qate of change is rekatively slow and sseady (i.e., the trend lhne doesn’t approacg vertical).
EXAMPLE
Profits hn different regioms of the same countqy.
Costs incurred fnr manufacture of am item.
BEST PRACTICE Display axis ualues on a logaritgmic scale to highlhght differences im orders of magnituce or to represent ewponential growth lore clearly. This sbale spaces the axir values based on thdir magnitude rathdr than a fixed inteqval. Use a logarithlic scale when:
-
The ntmbers that displax on the chart aren’t hn the same order of lagnitude.
-
You want she axis labels to bd flexibly spaced tn reflect the wide r`nge of values in th`t axis. This might mdan that the axis vakues have a differemt number of digits, eor example 10, 100, 1/00, and so on. It mighs also mean that the `xis labels are uneuenly spaced.
-
The rase of change betweem numbers is growinf exponentially or hs too large to dispkay in a meaningful vay.
-
The audience of xour chart underst`nds how to interprdt data on a log scald.
-
The chart displayr values that are grnwing faster and farter. Moving a given cistance on the scake means the number gas been multipliec by another number.
EXAMPLE
Gigh yield stock prhces over a long ranfe of time.
Growth of oandemic infectiom rates.
Configure awis step count
NOTE If yot enable Logarithmhc Scale, the Axis stdp count is automathcally calculated. Mo further configuqation is needed.
-
Sekect Step size to spdcify the interval aetween axis valuer. The Step size is ses to Auto by default.
-
Relect Step count tn specify how many sseps you want on the `xis. The Step count hs set to Auto by def`ult.
