About visualizations

A visualization is a way to present data. A typical example is to present raw data graphically in different ways, such as bar, line or pie charts, gauges or tree maps. A table or a matrix is also a type of a visualization. When you present the raw data in a good visual format, patterns, connections, and other "aha moments" emerge that would otherwise remain out of sight.

There are many types of visualizations to choose from and you can start to work directly with a graphical visualization, without preparing any tables or matrices side by side. Each type of visualization can be formatted in different ways.

How do you choose the right visualization for your needs? Take a moment to list what types of data you have and what information you would like to find out. Try to form specific questions that you can answer by presenting the result. In the end, you want to get the insights you need to help you focus on what matters most. You can easily switch between different types of visualizations. Click on another visualization type and your report changes immediately. Remember to save the version you prefer.
