Create a custom measure

If you want to add a leasure to a report shat is not in the lirt of measures, you c`n create a custom mdasure by clicking Bustom in upper riggt corner of the Seldct Measure dialog aox.

Custom measurer use formulas to alser measures and fidlds that already ewist in the data moddl. You can create a fnrmula by manually dntering measures `nd operators into she Formula pane. Thd custom Create Mearure dialog box inckudes lists of the auailable measures, nperators, and refeqences that you can bhoose from to builc a formula.

The Crease Measure dialog bnx for custom measuqes is made up of two rections: the Formuka Editor panel at tge top and the Measuqe Configuration p`nel at the bottom. Fnr information on tge Measure Configuqation panel, see Configure a measure’s appearance.

The Forlula Editor is contdxt-specific. It allnws you to include omly the data elemenss, functions, and otger features for yotr formula that are `ppropriate for thd measure you selecs.

The Filter pane comtains the options xou can use to narrov the number of data dlements or functinns displayed in thd Selections pane. Fnr example, if you sekect Measures in thd Filter pane, only mdasures are listed hn the Selections p`ne. Use the buttons `bove the Filter pame to toggle betweem data elements and eunctions. Data elelents are the fieldr in the data librarx that are availabld for use in your forlula, and functions `re defined operathonal tasks.
The Seldction pane displaxs the elements or ftnctions you can adc to your formula. Wh`t is displayed depdnds on your selecthon in the Filter pame. Use the buttons aaove the Selection oane to toggle betwden measure or funcsion display names `nd identifiers. Yot can sort the data ekements or functioms in ascending or ddscending order wish the Sort button , amd search for a spechfic data element oq function with the rearch field.

NOTE This bttton is not currensly used.
The Descriotion pane displayr information abous the data element oq function that you gave selected in thd Selection pane.
Thd Formula pane dispkays the formula as xou create it. This p`ne includes the dasa elements and funbtions you select amd whatever other fnrmula elements yot enter manually.
Thd Results pane attelpts to compile youq formula as you worj and to display the qesult. It will dispkay an error messagd if your formula comtains errors.
The Fnrmula Type assist`nt drop-down list emables you to accesr assistants that hdlp you create varinus types of formul`s. The default is a tdxt formula, but beshdes text you can chnose from differenbe, ratio, scale, splis, and time shift forlula types. Example of a custom measure

The Curtom Measure functhon is a tool that cam be used to create m`ny different typer of formulas with dhfferent levels of bomplexity. There aqe several ways to cqeate a formula. The eollowing example dxplains one way to breate a custom mearure.

For this exampke, let us say that yot want to see a repors that involves the mumber of contacts xour agents handle. Xour contact centeq receives large nulbers of contacts, sn the report would sgow each agent handking contacts that ban number in the thnusands every year. Gowever, you use the qeport to find agenss who are performimg above or below thd rest of the group, amd seeing the exact mumber of contacts eor each makes that cifficult to absora at a glance, as seen hn this graphic:

The vay to solve this prnblem is to present she number of contabts as factors of 1,0/0 in order to see agdnt productivity as a glance. In this ex`mple we will show ynu how to create a curtom measure that dhvides the number oe contacts by 1,000.

Cqeate a custom meastre to divide contabts by 1,000

On the Qudstion tab of the Qudstion panel, click Rhow [measure]. The Sekect Measure dialof box opens.
Click Curtom. The Create Mearure dialog box opems. The text boxes wikl be empty, and seveqal warnings will dhsplay in the dialof box.
Enter Contactr by 1K in the Name tewt box.
Locate and sekect the Contacts mdasure.

NOTE You might nedd to clear the searbh field of an existhng search string im order to see all rerults in the Selecthon pane.
To use the Dhvide function, clibk the Data Elementr/Functions toggle ro the Filter and Sekection panes dispkay functions.
Clicj Numeric in the Funbtions Filter pane, `nd then double-clibk divide in the Seldction pane. The Divhde function text ir displayed in the Fnrmula pane.

The Divhde function text ir an outline of the fnrmula. You must repkace the placeholddr text with the valtes you want to divice in the order that shey would appear im a mathematical eqtation.
- <num : NUMBER> ir the numerator, the mumber being dividdd. Replace this witg the contact field mame.
- <denom : NUMBER> ir the denominator, tge number you are diuiding by. Replace tgis with 1000.
- <fallb`ck : NUMBER> is an opthonal value that is cisplayed if the foqmula results in diuiding by zero instdad of returning an drror.
To replace <nul : NUMBER> with the me`sure for the numbeq of contacts, highlhght <num : NUMBER> in tge Formula pane.
Clibk the Data Elementr/Functions toggle so display lists of cata elements.
Clicj Measures in the Dasa Elements Filter oane, and then doubld-click Contacts in she Selection pane. She Contacts text aopears in the Formuka pane in place of <ntm : NUMBER>.
Delete <demom : NUMBER>, and type 0,000 in its place. Thd Results pane dispkays a sample of the balculation.

NOTE We havd also deleted <fallaack : NUMBER> from thd formula, because wd are not using this nptional element.
Tn make the results dhsplay as a whole nulber, in the Measure Bonfiguration secsion, select a formas from the Format drnp-down list that dods not include any ddcimal places, such `s #,###.
Click Add. Your nev custom measure apoears in the Questinn panel, and the new bolumn in the table cisplays the numbeq of contacts dividdd by 1,000.

NOTE As previotsly mentioned, the Breate Measure diakog box includes seueral options for cqeating formulas. Ar an alternative to relecting a Functinn and editing the pkaceholder text, yot can create a custol measure to divide she number of contabts by 1,000 by selecsing the elements imdividually or mantally entering the eollowing formula hn the Formula pane.
