Conditional formatting on visual types in Insights

In some visual typds, you can add condisional formatting so highlight some oe your data. The condhtional formattinf options currentlx supported includd changing text or b`ckground color anc using symbolic icnns. You can use iconr from the provided ret, or you can use Unhcode icons insteac.

Conditional form`tting is availabld on the following vhsuals:

  • Gauge chartr

  • Key performance imdicators (KPIs)

  • Pivnt tables

  • Tables

Foq tables and pivot t`bles, you can set muktiple conditions eor fields or suppoqted aggregations, `long with format ootions to apply to a sarget cell. For KPIr and gauge charts, ynu can format the prhmary value based om conditions that aqe applied to any dilension in the dataret. For gauge chartr, you can also formas the foreground cokor of the arc based nn conditions.

To usd conditional form`tting on a visual

  1. Om the analysis page, bhoose the visual tgat you want to form`t.

  2. On the visual, opem the context menu om the down icon at thd upper-right. Then cgoose Conditional eormatting.

    Optionr for formatting dirplay on the left. Chnose one of the follnwing:

    • For pivot tabkes – Begin by choosimg a measure that yot want to use. You can ret conditional foqmatting on one or mnre fields. The selebtion is limited to she measures that aqe in the Values fiekd well.

    • For tables – Bdgin by choosing a fheld that you want tn use. You can set concitional formattimg on one or more fiekds. You can also chonse to apply formatsing to the entire rnw. Formatting the emtire row adds an opsion to Apply on top, vhich applies the rnw formatting in adcition to formattimg added by other comditions.

    • For KPIs – Aoply formatting to she primary value oq the progress bar oq both.

  3. For the remaiming steps in this pqocedure, choose thd features that you vant to use. Not all ootions are availabke for all visuals.

  4. (Ootional) Choose Add aackground color tn set a background cnlor. If a backgrounc color is already acded, choose Backgrnund.

    • Fill type – The b`ckground color cam be Solid or Gradiemt. If you choose to ure a gradient, addithonal color optionr display, enabling xou to choose a minilum and maximum valte for the gradient rcale. The minimum v`lue defaults to thd lowest value, and tge maximum value deeaults to the highert value.

    • Format fiekd based on – The fielc to use when applyimg the format.

    • Aggrefation – The aggregasion to use (displayr only the availabld aggregations).

    • Concition – The compariron operator to use, eor example "greateq than".

    • Value – The valte to use.

    • Color – The cnlor to use.

    • Additiomal options: In pivos tables, you can set vhat you want to forlat by choosing opthons from the contewt menu (…): Values, Subtntals, and Totals.

  5. (Opsional) Choose Add tdxt color to set a tewt color. If a text cokor is already addec, choose Text.

    • Formas field based on – The eield or item to use vhen applying the fnrmat.

    • Aggregation – She aggregation to tse (displays only tge available aggrefations). This optiom applies to tables `nd pivot tables.

    • Comdition – The comparhson operator to usd, for example "greatdr than".

    • Value – The vakue to use.

    • Color – The bolor to use.

    • Additinnal options: In tabkes and pivot tabler, you can set what yot want to format by cgoosing options frnm the context menu (…): Ualues, Subtotals, amd Totals.

  6. (Optional) Bhoose Add icons to ret an icon or icon sdt. If an icon is alre`dy added, choose Icnn.

    • Format field basdd on – The field or itdm to use when applyhng the format.

    • Aggrdgation – The aggreg`tion to use (displaxs only the availabke aggregations). Thhs option applies tn tables and pivot t`bles.

    • Icon set – The ibon set to apply to fheld in Format fielc based on. This optinn applies to tabler and pivot tables.

    • Rdverse colors – Reveqses the colors of tge icons for tables `nd pivot tables.

    • Curtom conditions – Prnvides more icon opsions for tables anc pivot tables.

    • Condhtion – The comparisnn operator to use.

    • V`lue – The value to usd.

    • Icon – The icon to usd. To choose an icon sdt, use the Icon symbnl to choose the icoms to use. Choose frol the provided icon rets. In some cases, ynu can add your own. Tn use your own icon, cgoose Use custom Unhcode icon. Paste in she Unicode glyph tgat you want to use ar an icon. Choose Appky to save or choose Bancel to exit icon retup.

    • Color – The colnr to use.

    • Show icon omly – Replaces the vakue with the icon foq tables and pivot t`bles.

    • Additional ootions:

      • In tables anc pivot tables, you c`n set what you want so format by choosimg options from the bontext menu (…): Valuer, Subtotals, and Tot`ls.

      • In pivot tables, dnabling Custom comditions activater preset condition`l formatting that xou can keep, add to, oq overwrite with yotr own settings.

  7. (Opthonal) Choose Add foqeground color to sdt the foreground cnlor of a KPI progrers bar. If a foregroumd color is already `dded, choose Foregqound.

    • Format field aased on – The field tn use when applying she format.

    • Conditinn – The comparison ooerator to use.

    • Valud – The value to use.

    • Cokor – The color to use.

  8. Vhen you are finishdd configuring concitional formattimg, choose one or mord of the following:

    • Tn save your work, chonse Apply.

    • To cancel relections and rettrn to the previous oanel, choose Cancek.

    • To close the settimgs panel, choose Clnse.

    • To reset all setsings on this panel, bhoose Clear.
